the metal side of things

the other night we stayed late at the studio re-upping our goods for the next days show…

i was able to snap a few pictures of richard working his magic on metal.

hosting our first craft show

this past saturday we held our first craft show at our studio space in north portland…and thanks to sari’s amazing PR and marketing skills the turn out was fantastic…thank you to all of the vendors that took the time to set up their wares and weather the cold with us, and to all of our friends who came out and supported what we do…it was a huge success.

we had hot cider, wine, cheese and homemade cookies to nosh on and plenty of great conversation.

we're all set up

fabric WORLD

actually…it’s called fabric depot.

sari and i took a trip out to fabric depot here in PDX the other day to pick up some miscellaneous materials. the store has a place in our heart because it’s where we used to order our fabric from when we lived on the east coast. so to actually be there, in the place where they used to cut yards and yards of fabric from bolts and pack it up and ship it to us down in savannah, was just heart stopping.
this place is a treasure…..add it to the many reasons portland is UTOPIA.

*update* um, darra, you forgot the craziest part of this entire experience: for some reason at fabric depot they sell tons of strange dutch candies and snacks.  i bought these weird salty black licorice coins that were the texture of rawhide.  mmmm. terrific!

coming soon…stationery!

we’re taking advantage of the holiday shopping season and the fact that we are suddenly TOTALLY INVOLVED in the pdx craft circuit (a place we never really thought we’d be) to make just about anything that strikes our fancy these days.  we figure we’ll worry about our ‘brand cohesion’ and things like that in the new year, when we’re in the true depths of the dark, cold winter of economic despair.

sometimes this leads to really good discoveries, like note cards!  these are my favorite things we’ve made in a while…coming soon to our etsy store!

we think we’re really funny.

i was thinking once again today about how lucky i feel to be starting this company with two people that i love and respect so much. today it hit me that we’re all the kind of people that other people want to be around, because we always seem like we are having so much fun. and most of the time it’s true. hopefully this will translate easily into being the kind of people that other people want to buy things from.

to illustrate this point: after a long day at the studio, we were planning on going out for sushi…richard was getting a little impatient waiting for darra to finish listing new things on etsy, so he sat at my desk and composed this to-do list after seeing mine there…

apologies for the foul language at the top of the page. not our doing. but still quite funny.

studio abuzz

as we have mentioned before we share our studio with a bunch of welders…..

we occupy one small corner in a larger space…..

our corner is a quiet sanctuary most days… a freezing cold sanctuary, but a sanctuary no less.

unfortunately i don’t have any photos of the dirty man area…..so these of our pretty printing space will have to do for now….
